I propose a “Manta Ray” Style self-burying landmine grid system, which uses swarm and haptic robotic re-organization theory to fill in the holes left from enemy intrusion. A “Manta Ray” mimicking robot, which vibrates can quickly bury itself.

The virtual grid in which the land mines occupy will allow for patterns, which are algorithm controlled by encrypted satellite command relay. The shape of the land mines will be a small lobster like body with large circular or octagonal mesh wired component. The body will dig a hole for itself and then the mesh grid will lower itself to the surface and then jiggle until it is covered. (have drawings). Since we know the latest exact locations of the minefield a blue force army, downed pilot or special force teams could transverse the minefield using a PDA-GPS device carefully dodging all the land mines. Any attempt to follow them would be sure death for those who pursue. Think the story of the “Parting of the Red Sea!” I further propose the Blue Force software guidance system around the self-healing minefield grid be called PRS.

The land mines will deactivate by satellite, before re-configuring and then once properly buried in place be reactivated. After the war they can be deactivated or discharged, to prevent the countless thousands killed and maimed each year from land mines of wars gone bye.

Note: Author is not associated with Sirius or Howard Stern in any way and this article is meant to be an analysis of the move to Sirius Satellite Radio by Howard Stern and events surrounding it.

Howard Stern’s move to Sirius Satellite Radio will really make a huge difference for New York Radio. With listeners making the move to Satellite Radio and away from New York City, what will happen to the radio stations broadcasting in New York City? Does radio continue on a good course or does it need a wake up call? - Is this it’s wakeup call?

The Daily News, has said that New York City radio “faces its last great wakeup call” and is being forced to deal with changing technologies, and the ever changing consumer tastes. The biggest threat, obviously to New York Radio is the changing of radio formats, from terrestrial to Satellite Radio. The Hollywood Reporter has outlined several new changes that Sirius Satellite Radio has made to its radio channel line up in order to take away market share from New York Radio and this is a huge threat to the terrestrial format.

Howard Stern isn’t the only one whom is making the move to Satellite Radio, there are several shock jocks that are in some areas, the flag ship of Clear Channel and several other networks. Stern will now have two stations via Sirius Satellite Radio and there are more in the works. Sirius also has plans for upto five family and kids channels as well as three difference Christian channels. Sirius is covering all its listeners wants and desires, New York radio has failed to do that, and Sirius is answering the call of its subscribers for better content!

One of the most critical infrastructures for restoring order to a catastrophic disaster is that of communication. Communication is necessary for those in need to call in their needs and to alert authorities of growing problems. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina there is no cell phone use and those who have cell phones cannot use them because the towers are down, the power to the towers are down and by now anyone with a cell phone has dead batteries with no way to recharge them. Most cars are submerged and/or were submerged and you cannot start them or use the batteries to charge thru the cigarette lighter adapters.

But those who have not discharged their cell phones or have 3G wireless phones with new technologies and lower use of batteries still have a chance. If even one cell tower is up and they are within range they have a chance of getting thru, but each time the system is busy they use up more of their batteries. If they do get thru they might be disconnected due to spotty service and distance from tower; you know the joke; “Can you here me now?”

Luckily we have technology now to improve cell service via mobile command units with cell tower repeaters and expandable giant beach ball shaped balloons, which are cell towers in the sky. Unfortunately it is tough for those communication command centers to get into the area. One idea is to put one on top of the Interstate Over Pass Interchange using a Giant Sikorsky Helicopter. They will have situational awareness and be able to have a direct line of site communication station. The other location should a top one of the largest building in New Orleans, which has back up power systems or put the Command Center on top with its own power source.

The communication station in the sky is a good idea and one of the best ways to insure communication and it is somewhat of a new technology, you can learn more here:

Using a balloon or blimp with cellular phone equipment you can immediately restore power and information flows. Communication is the key to real time information to help those with real needs and connect the unconnected. If we tethered the balloon to one of the largest buildings we should be able to have cell service to get information from the battlespace and Soup Bowl Death Zone. Think on this for future disasters.
